It doesn’t matter if you have a killer product or a fantastically designed website, if people don’t know that you exist, it doesn’t matter, and you are not going to make it big. Worse of all, you business could just get killed.

While the term Viral easily depicts a virus, a word very much dreaded by all computer owners, it is not what it seems. You do not actually use a computer virus to spread your business; on the contrary it just might kill you. Everyone has had enough of all those pop up ads and spywares.


Viral Marketing Overview



Viral Marketing also known otherwise as Viral Advertising is a marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one’s product or company. They use many forms of media to reach out to the public without actually promoting the product by riding on in other forms of addictive means that could get a person hooked and be obliged or amused to actually pass it on, with the product or company advertisement along with it.


In a nutshell, companies ride on the idea that if people like the content of a media they will pass it on to their friends and family. They sponsor the certain media, such as a cool flash game, funny video, amusing story and such, which one may pass on to another with the company brand or logo or the products description or any other content to help promote the company or its product.


Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and marketing because they are relatively low cost. To avoid being tagged as spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of one person to pas on the product. If a person sees the name of the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and open it as well.


Many companies offer incentives such as discounts and rebates when they help in spreading their viral marketing. They rely on the number of recipients a viral marketing gets from one person in determining the amount or number of incentive they can be attributed with.


Using Viral Marketing to your advantage


The main and foremost advantage of viral marketing is that you get a lot of publicity and public awareness about your site and your company. You get to generate a flow of traffic that are potential customers. With a little ingenuity and imagination, plus some incentives or prizes, you can reach out to a great number of people and announce your existence.


Most every site and companies are catching on to the effectivity of Viral Marketing and Advertising. Not using it could kill your business. Along with other schemes and methods in promoting your site, like Search Engine Optimization and such, viral marketing could easily push you ahead in the rating games.


Viral Marketing could be a sneaky way to get people to know about you and your company. You get them to pass your advertisement along. They are also very low cost that not investing in it could be downright a business suicide. All it takes is a great idea, a good addicting game, a funny story many ideas are still out there. Create a gossip or a buzz, many movies are promoted by using scandals and gossips to make them moiré popular. Remember the movie “The Blair Witch Project”?

Back in 1991, my mentor was making full-time income from MLM. He retired from that company and actually joined over 100 network marketing companies in the next few years, to figure out how this industry really works: the good, the bad, the ugly. Here's what he did:

  1. Got on dozens of company conference calls
  2. Organized & categorized companies, products, compensation plans, distributor kits, & marketing materials to compare each company with all the others
  3. Studied their business models, to understand what kind of behavior certain business models drove
  4. Studied how different "upline gurus" trained (or did not train) their people

This process answered all the mysteries.

It also revealed some valuable, valuable
secrets about network marketing.

Example #1: The hard-driving, closing salesperson is about 8% of the population. And those 8% have convinced the other 92% that the 8% are right and the 92% are wrong. How did they do that? Because that is what they DO. It works for them, so they have total confidence that they are right, and when you feel their confidence, you KNOW they must be right, so you do what they tell you.

Ninety-two percent of the world's population is sales-resistant. They do not like to be sold, and they do not want to become that pushy, aggressive salesperson that nobody likes. Yet when they join MLM, some upline leader tells them, "Make a list of your friends and family. Call them up. Get 'em into the business. You need to hear 100 'No's for every 'Yes'.

Guess what? It still only works for the 8%. If you let them mesmerize you, you can wander aimlessly in the "failure" desert for years ... maybe forever.

The Choice Is Yours

You can't become something you hate in order to be successful. This model works for the 8% who are real salespeople. It's a disaster for the rest of us ... a very bad business model.

Example #2: Every person on the planet has to be educated in the skills of what they're doing. Whether you're a doctor, carpenter, plumber, ditchdigger ... whatever you are ... you've got to be taught the skills of that business.

And what "Success In 10 Steps" does for people is, it gets them to realize, "It's not your fault! The people teaching you didn't know any better. They weren't bad people. They weren't lying to you intentionally. They just did not know any other way to do the business."

Do you think you can wake up one morning and say, "I'm going to be a doctor!" And you go down and join a company, get a distributor kit for 50 bucks, and you're a doctor?

Of course not. That's ludicrous.

How about a carpenter? No way. You have to learn pitches and square and level and plumb. You have to be taught the skills.

Yet people get in network marketing, and they're told, "Call your friends & family." It's the biggest fallacy in the industry. Network marketing is not a sales business. It's a teaching & mentoring business. When you build people, people will build your business.

Those upline guru leaders will tell you, "Well, you didn't make enough phone calls. You're a loser. If it's to be, it's up to me."

Have you heard all that stuff? I'll bet you've believed it, too, haven't you?

Network Marketing Online - A Few Pointers

First of all, you've got to have a direct splash page for your #1, #2 and #3 selling MLM products. And please don't put a business opportunity attached to the splash page. You will literally drive people away from you.

People love to buy a product, but they don't want to be sold. They absolutely don't want to be sold. Make sure you have company-approved testimonial pages, so network marketing distributors don't have to make their own.

The Big Problem

The network marketing company doesn't offer these single product pages to distributors, so now the distributors on their own go out and create this stuff. They see in the Policies & Procedures that reps are 100% responsible for what they do in building their business. OK. Great.

So the company doesn't STOP you from putting ads out there that this product cures cancer, grows your arm back, grows your hair back and all that stuff. They let reps make these wild claims. Why? Because the product sales are pouring in.

Some guy reads that ad and says, "My gosh! I'm bald. I want to grow my hair back, I better buy the product." Or somebody is dying of cancer, and you advertise your "cure." They say, "I better go get some." So they do.

And then what's amazing is, someone writes the testimonial that it grew their finger back. Then the next guy writes, "Well, it grew my hand back." You have to top that, so the next one says, "It grew my entire arm back - and my leg."

So they do a one-up on each other. The sales are pouring in. Meanwhile, the distributor's neck is on the line, because the company can chop it off it anytime - like as soon as the Federal Government says "Whoa! Hey, you guys are making product claims!"

Now, the company has to show the government that they have been going back and terminating distributors who make these unbelievable claims. Meanwhile, product sales in the company are skyrocketing.

The Company Is Making Tons of Money

So much money. They have to go build another bigger building, so they can be bigger than the next one on the block.

They have to have that. And then the 3rd thing these companies do is, they charge people for their back office. It does not cost them $39 a month for that website. It doesn't cost them FIVE bucks! But they charge the distributors $39 for their whole back office to look at your business center and your genealogy and to organize and so forth.

Companies like that are making $100,000 minimum a month off the distributor's backs. It's another profit center, just charging reps for the stuff.

But the company needs to create the pages, so the distributor won't do it. The company knows better than to put wild claims in there. If they do it, then THEIR neck is on the line. That way, the company is liable, rather than the individual rep.

The only reason to spend your time and your blood, sweat, and tears to build this business is to have it sustain you over your lifetime. Anything that puts you at risk should be eliminated from your gameplan. So be sure YOU aren't the one making wild claims.
